MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Whittier College Men's Soccer team scored three unanswered Saturday en route to winning their first game of 2019 3-1 over Linfield College.

The Purple & Gold traveled up to the Pacific Northwest to take on the Wildcats and after getting behind early was able to bounce back with three in the second half all coming from different players.

Linfield brought the pressure early and capitalized off of a goalie deflection.  Whittier put three balls on frame in the first half coming from Banks Telkamp (Seattle, WA), Daniel Hayes (Chicago, Ill.), and Nicolas Barrera (Bellflower, Calif.) but all of them would be turned away by Wildcat keeper Cameron Perron.

Following some first half adjustments the Poets came out firing as they mounted their comeback.  The equalizer came in the 52nd minute from Telkamp who was fed by freshman Nainoa Loschky (Bellevue, WA) finishing on the right side.

The eventual game-winner came in the 68th minute this time from Hayden Barnouw (Seattle, WA) who connected from 30-yards out going near post.  The insurance goal came late with just under seven minutes to play as Tommy Yarbrough (Encinitas, Calif.) was found in the box by RayRay Roberson (Albuquerque, NM).  This put the finishing touches on the comeback as Whittier improves to 1-1.

Freshman Teddy Nickerson (Seattle, WA) played all 90:00 minutes between the posts and finished with four stops.  Telkamp led the offense with five shots, two being on frame and Barrera added three shots.

Whittier outshot Linfield 13-12 on the evening, which included a 6-5 edge on goal and added seven corner kicks.

Whittier returns to the pitch next Saturday, September 14 when they travel to take on Vanguard University beginning at 4:00pm.
