Poets open D.C. Trip with loss to Washington & Lee

WASHINGTON, DC - The Whittier College Men's Basketball team opened up their trip back to Washington D.C. Friday night with a lopsided 116-71 loss to Washington & Lee.  

The Purple & Gold drop to 1-2 on the season after shooting 32.9% from the field, 25.8% from three-point territory, while getting outrebounded 52-42 and turning the ball over 29 times that led to 32 points for the Generals.

Only two players were in double figures led by Ahmad Young (Sunnyvale, Calif.) off the bench who added 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting in 19 minutes of action.  He also added seven rebounds.  Kenayatta Louder (Compton, Calif.) had a strong effort with 11 points and four boards and Nick Colosi (La Mirada, Calif.) tallied nine points and five rebounds playing 20 minutes.

Jude Agbasi (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Nick Manor-Hall (Chino Hills, Calif.) each added eight points apiece and combined for seven rebounds and Kyle Price (Rocklin, Calif.) inside added six points with four rebounds.

W&J scored the first nine points of the contest in just 1:34 and pushed the lead to 17-4 by the 16:41 mark.  The lead was trimmed to 10 at the 14:09 mark but after that the Generals scored 13 straight that moved the score to 35-12.  Young temporarily stopped the onslaught with a layup but then W&J would respond with a 13-4 burst that extended their margin to 30.  Whittier gave up 63 first half points then saw Washington & Lee add 14 of the first 17 points in the second half that stretched the deficit to 39 (75-36).  The margin then increased to 52 later in the half as the Generals cruised to the home victory.
